BREATH OF THE WILD

Shiraz Amar - Morgane Nicol - Love Andersson

"No art suffers more from misunderstandings, sentimental judgments and mystical interpretations than the art of dance" Susanne K. Langer - Feeling and form.

Deriving from this quote and the understanding of dance and choreography as constantly expanding concepts in the current contemporary dance field in Europe, "Breath of The Wild" was born as an attempt to answer the paradoxical question ‘How Can Dance keep expanding its definition while being attainable to general public?’ This piece has as an aim to re-negotiate the pre-existing expectations and opinions of contemporary dance to make it more accessible to the general public! By moving inside 3 camping tents, the dancers humanize this object and play with the perception of the public and the image of the "tent" and the "dancer". Through using popular culture, abstraction and comedy the tents shapeshift and transform preconceived ideas of bodies and dancing. "Breath of the wild" invites the audience to follow the three tents on a journey of transformation from being a mass of synthetic fabric into functional objects, creatures, characters, animals and eventually becoming dancers

in a “Grand Finale” unison.
